Once again emails posting as unpaid invoices are doing the rounds on the internet – but do you know what to look out for to prevent your computer being hijacked?
Whilst there is no single way to spot them, exercising some common sense can help prevent these malware ridden attachments taking over your device.
Often the attachment will be a ZIP file, or a Microsoft Word Document – believe it or not, but Word documents aren’t always safe to open; they could contain macros that will lock your computer and a hacker could demand a ransom to release it again.
As long as your security software is up to date and you keep your wits about you, there shouldn’t be anything to panic about – just remember to never open attachments from people you’ve never heard of.
It’s worth us pointing out that invoices from Baxter Media will always come from a @baxtermedia.co.uk email address and if you are in doubt about any attachment, they can always be downloaded from the client area.
